I was chattering to Mom on the phone, telling her what I was going to fix for supper, when I had a sudden thought. ďYou know,Ē I said, ďItís pretty good when you decide what to fix based on whatís taking up the most room in the freezer. That means you have plenty to eat.Ē
Itís been a rough year for me, but, as Thanksgiving rolls around, I find I have plenty to be grateful for. After almost a year, I finally have a job. Itís not exactly what I had in mind, and I have a long, hard stretch ahead of me with no insurance, a crazy schedule, and very little pay. But itís almost enough, and, if itís almost enough, I can somehow manage to make it be enough. I still wonít have any of the nice things Iíve yearned for, but I will survive.
I have been unable to afford the food I wanted to eat, but I have never gone hungry.
My car desperately needs work done, but somehow it stays running.
I have no insurance, but I have managed to stay healthy.
I havenít been able to buy luxuries, but I have a roof over my head, and lights and heat.
I have accomplished very little of what Iíve wanted to accomplish, but Iíve been given a year with lots of time for family, friends, and my pets.
And now I have a job where I truly make a difference.
Yes, I have a lot to be thankful for this year. Happy Thanksgiving!
